Description
Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride
Injection, USP (0.9%) is a sterile, isotonic saline solution formulated for the dilution and reconstitution of medications intended for injection. It contains:
0.9% Sodium Chloride (9 mg/mL) – Matches the osmolarity of blood plasma (approximately 308 mOsm/L), making it isotonic and minimizing tissue irritation.
0.9% Benzyl Alcohol – A bacteriostatic preservative that inhibits the growth of bacteria within the vial after it has been punctured.
Unlike single-use sterile saline, bacteriostatic sodium chloride is supplied in multi-dose vials, typically 10 mL or 30 mL, and can be accessed multiple times.
Primary Uses
Reconstitution of lyophilized peptides or medications
Dilution of injectable compounds to achieve precise dosing
Maintaining isotonicity to reduce injection site discomfort
Short-term flushing of small injection devices (when appropriate)
